Sloan & Co. is one of the renowned manufacturers of American Art Nouveau and Edwardian era jewelry located in Newark, New Jersey. With a prestigious jewelry shop in New York City, Sloan & Co. presented the "Four Hundred" of the late 1800s and café society of the later years with any number of lovely jewelry choices.

One of their collections focused on a series of astrological or Zodiac signs in locket form or in a pendant. Quite ornate and in the manner of Art Nouveau, this 14k yellow gold double photo locket features a high relief design for the sign of Taurus birth date Zodiac for April 20th through May 21st.

Dominant is a regal bull's head below the month of April, and the glyph typically associated with this sign. The word Taurus is also specified on the front.

This earth birth sign is ruled by Venus. Flowers and neoclassical elements frame the outer edge of the locket. To the interior are two compartments with rims and glass covers to contain a photo or two.

Sloan chose to create these with the starting month of the sign, so all Taurus lockets read April, albeit very small when worn and only visible with very close inspection.
